Spotlights of Brooklyn

Coney Island

Coney Island is a residential Brooklyn neighborhood straight out of your summer vacation dreams. You can soak up the sun on the island’s beach or hop on Luna Park’s famed Cyclone roller coaster. Let your imagination run wild at the annual Mermaid Parade, where you’ll find costumed mythical creatures everywhere. And if Coney Island doesn’t already scream “dream summer destination,” Nathan’s Famous hosts an annual hot dog eating contest on the island every July 4th.

BAM Harvey Theater

Immerse yourself in Brooklyn’s unique culture by visiting the BAM Harvey Theater, a prominent theater that puts on films, plays, and opera performances. Originally built in 1904 as the Majestic Theater, this space served as a movie house until the onset of television caused it to close in the 1960s. The theater resurrected as part of the Brooklyn Academy of Music in the late 1980s, and they’ve been producing multiple shows daily ever since.

Williamsburg Smorgasburg

For those who want a wholesome taste of Brooklyn all in one spot, the Smorgasburg Food Market in East River State Park has to be on your itinerary. This food market draws in 20,000 to 30,000 people each weekend, and it’s the largest weekly food market in America. The Smorgasburg Food Market gives you the chance to mingle with local New Yorkers, all while enjoying a variety of food vendors and the best views of the city skyline.

Brooklyn Attractions

Living in Brooklyn

There are things to see and do every day of the week in Brooklyn. Let's get into the Brooklyn State of Mind and explore a bit more of this thriving borough!

The Homes

As arguably the most desirable outer-borough to live in, Brooklyn is becoming one of the best New York areas to find your forever home. Brooklyn neighborhoods offer the rare opportunity to have peace and quiet outside of the city that never sleeps. Brooklyn’s real estate market is as diverse as the city itself, with everything from oceanfront properties in Brighton Beach to 19th-century brownstones in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The Jobs

Brooklyn’s job market is largely dependent on NYC’s economy, and more than half of borough residents work outside of Brooklyn. Since Silicon Alley has expanded from Lower Manhattan into Brooklyn, high technology start-up companies have become prevalent throughout the borough. Most employers in Brooklyn are small businesses, so Brooklyn residents have the option to work locally or venture into NYC for a corporate scene.

The Schools

Students in the Brooklyn school district have a number of public and private institutions to choose from for their education. Brooklyn Technical High School is the largest specialized high school for science, mathematics, and technology in the country. Brooklyn Tech stands out physically for its 12-story stature, and academically for its vast number of graduates who attend prestigious universities.

Brooklyn College was the first public coeducational liberal arts college in NYC. The college is noted for having many first- and second-generation students.

The Amenities

Whether you want a full belly, a history lesson, or just a scenic day outside, you can achieve it through one of Brooklyn’s many five-star attractions. Many of New York’s most crave-worthy restaurants are housed under one roof at the Time Out Market New York. You can work off your New York-sized meal at Brooklyn Bridge Park, an 85-acre expanse with stunning Manhattan views. Founded in 1863, the Brooklyn Historical Society is home to “It Happened in Brooklyn,” which highlights some of the most crucial moments in American history.
