Rich Origins in Brooklyn

Flatlands is a neighborhood with a rich history and a vibrant community culture. First founded as an independent town, Flatlands became an official part of the City fo Brooklyn in the late 19th century. The community was first named Nieuw Amersfoort, given the background and heritage of the Dutch colonists that first made the area their home.

Historic homes in the region date back as far as the early 18th century, and the famous Flatlands Dutch Reformed Church, built in 1848, served as a stop on the Underground Railroad, giving the community even more historical relevance.
